August Wilson Monologue Competition

FAC offers free info session for local high schoolers

Foothill Arts Collective (FAC) invites San Gabriel Valley high school students to an informational session to learn how to audition for the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. hosted by the Richard Allen Theater Guild at First A.M.E Church, 1700 N. Raymond Ave., Pasadena.

The AWMC involves students performing a one to three minute monologue selected from Wilson's 10 "Century Cycle" plays depicting African American life over the past 10 decades.

A representative from the Center Theatre Group, which hosts the Southern California AWMC Regional auditions will give a presentation at FAC's September 27th event.

Interested high school students (10th, 11th and 12th grades) of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Registration for the AWMC audition process, which is free, begins in October. The Southern California Regional auditions will take place in November, with up to 50 students moving on to the regional semi -finals in January. Twelve students selected will compete in the Regional finals that will be held at the Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum in March 2015. Three students selected from the Regional finals will represent Southern California (all expenses paid) at the National AWMC finals in May 2015 held in New York City.

FAC is excited to help recruit high school students to audition as well as encourage and provide support for students through the audition process. FAC's goal is to help students discover the rich literary legacy left by August Wilson.
